This moving study of forgiveness and acceptance features a phenomenal performance from Kristin Scott Thomas as a middle aged woman who is trying to rebuild her relationship with her sister, who she hasn’t seen for 15 years.
As her intriguing back story is reveled to us, we learn that she is harbouring a painful secret. Claudel’s film observes her as she slowly regains her place in society and acceptance from her family. As she frees herself from an inner prison of her own making, so we see her soften up and embrace a humanity she had almost given up upon.
